The history of the small village goes back to the early part of the new millennium. In 2006 Caledonia transitioned from a town to a village. Prior to 2006, Caledonia was denied its request to become a village. Through a special exemption enacted by the state legislature, Caledonia was able to become a village in January of 2006.
